In 'regular life' - I'm Donna McClaren. The Baroness was born from my love of Steampunk and was actually the name given to me during a photoshoot. The name stuck and so did the attitude!
For the past several years, I've been fortunate enough to sell functional art glass, host tastings, perform Tea Duels at various events, and even wear some amazing outfits!!
I've branched out a bit since first starting this Character - including 'performing" Tea Duels (thank you, Wheeler for letting the Baroness do her thing back at the Frederick Steampunk Festival!) and developing a line of Luxury Self Care products.
The Baroness loves to engage the audience in joining in for all the fun! Tailoring each event based on the audience attending - and yes, children have been known to complete (and win!) against adults.
When I started doing this, I was completely surprised by how quickly everyone responded to this game. Each "match" is never the same thing twice and is totally what makes it so much fun for both the audience and participants.
I've "performed' at street festivals, Steampunk events (large and small), and even at my own Soirees. One of my favorite stories to tell is when my son (at the time he was about 14) assisted me at a street festival - he would go up to total strangers and say "You look like you could use a duel today!" The look of confusion was worth it and before we knew it, we would have a large group cheering on the opponents and volunteering for the next round!
The Baroness does host the occasional event as well as vends her own hand-crafted soaps, bath teas, Body Butters, and candles.
Right now, the bath and self care products are only available when I am actively vending a show - there are plans to have an online store in April 2022.
If you are interested in having the Baroness at your event, please contact me directly for my schedule!
